Keisha Jones, breast cancer survivor and host of this event, explained that all women especially those who receive a breast cancer diagnosis should “Research their diagnosis. Ask questions. Get a second opinion. Make sure you’re comfortable with your doctor. Don’t let this experience steal your joy. Take care of yourself physically and spiritually. Pray. Be supportive because we never know what other women are going through.

Stephanie Momom Shaken But Not Shattered, The Journey of a Woman of Faith

These days, Stephanie Momon is a vibrant and fulfilled woman. But she has battled depression, attempted suicide, and two bouts of cancer. Yet, despite these challenges, she earned two college degrees, obtained many certifications and awards, and has become a champion and model for physically challenged people who feel hopeless and helpless.

How did Stephanie climb out of her valley of despair? Stephanie became severely depressed as a teenager, which led to an unsuccessful attempt to take her life by carbon monoxide poisoning that left her in a coma and with a brain injury, and the inability to read, write, walk, or speak. She entered a recovery center in Springfield, Massachusetts, where she relearned how to use her natural abilities again.

Motivated by scientific evidence connecting the link between diet and health, more and more conscious foodies are eating green by turning to vegetable-based meal choices at home and when dining out. Veg News reports that in response to this mushrooming trend, 51 percent of chefs have added plant-based, dairy-free, gluten-free menu selections.

Vegans do not eat or use animal products. Vegetarians rely on plant-based foods. They do not eat meat, eggs, dairy or animal by-products, and generally, avoid processed foods. Vegan diets include legumes (beans, peas, and lentils), nuts /nut butters, hemp, flax, and chia seeds, tofu, and other minimally processed meat substitutes, calcium-fortified plant-based milk, yogurts, seaweed, nutritional yeast, sprouted and fermented plant foods.

It’s an experience more like surviving a traumatic event, seeing a deep and distressing movie or having a long and difficult talk with someone who has been oppressed from all sides. It accomplishes that which no other book I have ever read has done. Lorde defies all the labels she and others use to describe her. It stares the weaknesses we all share right in the face and finds ways to fight if not conquer them. Lorde allows the reader to get inside her skin like no other writer, and for the first time ever, made me feel the anger, terror, fear, helplessness I have sensed in many if not all black people. And yet her greatest criticisms are not of whites, but especially of her black sisters and then her brothers. She clearly does not set herself apart because she knows she has had ‘my boot on a sister’s face.’”
