Mildred was a nationally recognized champion of women’s health who worked for the Milwaukee Health Department from 1990 to 2007 and today the program she created 27 years ago has evolved to include not only breast and cervical cancer screening but also now provides cardiovascular risk reduction screenings and follow-up. Through the program education, breast and cervical cancer screenings, and diagnostic and treatment services have been provided. Also part of the dedication was the unveiling of a mural of Mildred that was done outside the suite to honor her years of service with the Milwaukee Health Department.
In 1993, MBCCAP became a part of the Wisconsin Well Woman Program which provides preventive health services to low-income women ages 35 to 64 who are underinsured or uninsured. The program is committed to decreasing the mortality rate of breast and cervical cancer in all women in the city through education, outreach, screening and treatment.
Please contact the Milwaukee Health Department to see if you are eligible for the program at 414-286-2133.
